Three great vinyl emulation plugins

-

iZotope Vinyl FREE

This freebie from iZotope is ace for adding the lo-fi feel of vinyl to your own sounds. You can adjust the playback speed and year of pressing; and dial in adjustable amounts of mechanical noise, dust, wear and scratches, which is great for both subtle and more extreme vinyl sound design – particularly if you’re into warped records!

izotope.com AudioThing Vinyl Strip €55

Featuring six effects modules that can be reordered via drag and drop, Vinyl Strip is a flexible way of getting that virtual vinyl sound in the box. The Distortion is worth a mention, with a useful odd and even harmonics control; while the Sampler gives the tone of classic digital studio gear – great for dialling in the sound of 90s rave records.

audiothing.net Klevgrand DAW LP $39.99

DAW LP is a winner for crafting vinyl sonics in your DAW. As well as being able to mix in 50/60Hz mains hum, amp noise and crackles, you can also adjust the amp, cable and needle quality to give a convincing simulation of a battered record player. The wet/dry mix is also an essential tool when you need to temper the plugin’s effect.
