Somehow standing for ‘Drum signal Source Separator and Re-mixer’, Fuse Audio’s DrumsSSX plugin claims to be able to separate mono or stereo acoustic drum tracks into their constituent elements – kick, snare, hats, etc – for remixing, bleed suppression and “all sorts of creative effects”. This seemingly magical feat is achieved using a trainable real-time NMF (Non-negative Matrix Factorisation) algorithm optimised for drums, and as well as opening up the kit for rebalancing in its mixer, the plugin also incorporates EQ and dynamics processing.
