2009’s first issue brought some slightly optimistic ‘new decade resolution­s’

We implored you to ‘stop wasting time’ on the cover of 135, with our February 2009 issue containing a guide to working faster and smarter. With computers and software now more powerful and cleverer than they were back then, you’d have been forgiven for thinking that we’d be making music at lightning speed these days, but, we’re sorry to report, our productivi­ty rate remains as pedestrian as it ever was.

We also brought you a guide to mixing

on lo-fi systems, noting that many people were at the time listening to their music as MP3s on MySpace. Both the format and platform have now slipped out of the public consciousn­ess – ask your dad about them – though we’re still very happy to play compressed music through less-than hi-fi setups.

In the Letters pages, meanwhile, there was a debate about whether music had reached its logical end. We’re glad to say that it’s still very much with us, though given our advancing years we, of course, do feel duty bound to say that it’s not as good as it was in the old days.
