Sampling individual drum hits or notes

Computer Music - - Make Music Now / Old-School Sampling -

Sampling individual hits from an original track is a technique perhaps most closely associated with hip-hop production, but it’s fairly commonplace across all genres. If you want to steal a drum hit, or even a particular melodic sound, all you have to do is find a section of the record where that sound is ‘open’ (ie playing on its own) and sample away.
