The big and bold approach
Every producer uses samples differently, but we can break down the classic approaches into a few main categories. First up, there’s what you might call the big and bold approach: sampling an entire bar or more of a track then looping it up, not caring that it’s easily recognisable.
This is a classic technique in house, but it’s most associated with filter house, where filtering loops and playing with effects is key. Duck Sauce’s 2014 hit BarbraStreisand proves the formula still works, based almost entirely around chunks of Boney M’s Gotta GoHome.
Recreating this technique is easy in absolutely any DAW – all you have to do is chop, loop and filter!
