djembe line that takes centre stage in the percussion section was played live by Daniël.

“It has this ring, and to damp it a bit, I put some socks into it. We used a lot of EQing to shape it, to get that ringing out of it.”

“We also used [FabFilter] Saturn. There’s a lot of peaks in the djembe recording, and these ticks and clicks sound a bit thin, but this plugin rounds it off really well. It also generates a lot of lows, again, so after that we use another EQ just to kill them. That’s how you make a crappy djembe sound a bit more proper!”
