Propellerhead Complex-1
Described by Propellerhead as “one of the most ambitious synths [they’ve] ever made”, Complex-1 is a modular synthesis system for the Swedish developer’s Reason DAW that brings “the quirks, freedom and sonic depth of modular synthesis to your Reason Rack”. With all of its modules fixed in place, rather than added as required, Complex-1 doesn’t appear to give totally free reign in ‘construction’ terms, but there’s plenty to work with nonetheless, including Buchlaand Moog-inspired oscillators, a ladder-style filter, two low-pass gates, a wave shaper, Reverb/Echo and Function modules, a builtin sequencer and much more. Audio and modulation signal routing is done using virtual patch cables (natch), and Propellerhead claim that Complex-1 is just as comfortable blasting out phat basslines as it is laying on glitchy soundscapes.
