> Step by step 10. Neutron 2’s Masking Meter and Histogram
1 Neutron’s Masking feature is part of the EQ module. Activate it with the Masking button and you’ll see a dropdown menu of tracks in your project with Neutron 2 processors inserted. Select one to be a comparison track. Here, we’re processing the bass and are selecting the kick drum for comparison. 2 The kick drum spectrogram and EQ curve appear below the bass equivalents. The vertical white bars that appear on the bass EQ indicate frequency ranges in which perceived loudness loss occurs when the two signals combine – ie, masking. Here, that’s primarily below 70Hz but with some loss up to 200Hz. 3 Take a look at the histogram above the EQ panel. This shows the same information as the Masking Meter, but is easier to follow. You may need to adjust the Sensitivity slider below the EQ panel in order to clearly see the histogram bars.
