> Step by step 17. Basic levelling with Waves Vocal Rider
1 For quick vocal rides, Vocal Rider is great. Load the plugin as the last insert effect on your vocal track and assign a sidechain signal. Here, we’ve bussed all our instrumental tracks using a post fader auxiliary ( bus 32), setting all sends to 0dB and making sure the bus doesn’t send to the main output. 2 With the track playing, set the Target slider and Vocal Sensitivity knob so that the fader raises and lowers the vocal level to compensate enough for peaks and troughs in the mix. You can choose between either Fast or Slow Attack, depending on how sudden you want the moves to be. 3 To record the Vocal Rider moves, change its automation mode to Write and select the appropriate automation recording mode in your DAW. With the moves captured, you can then edit the whole ride as per requirement. Finally, select Read mode to make Vocal Rider follow the automation.
