Out the box

-

09.05“I miss the warmth and depth of a good analogue console, so I want to find a middle ground there. I chose this Rupert Neve 5059 Satellite, summing 16 channels. Summing is nicer than ‘in the box’. From Logic, 16 busses go into the Neve, so I route the different sounds to those busses. On the Neve, I keep all the volumes on zero, so with all the little microtuning I’m doing in Logic when I flick back and forth, project to project, I don’t need to adjust the volumes. I’ve attached all the hardware EQs and compressors to the Neve with inserts, so I can flick them in and out, and it stays super tight as it’s all in the analogue domain. And once it gets out of all that, it goes back as a stereo input in Logic and I can bounce it in one click. That was the solution to the issues of getting super tight compression and better quality summing.”
