6. Speedy sidechaining in Cubase Pro 10
1 Cubase has offered sidechaining for some time, but its implementation often leaves users scratching their heads. With Cubase Pro 10, Steinberg have simplified the process. Here, we’ve got two tracks: a simple kick drum and a long, sustained drone. 2 We want our drone sound to be shaped by the kick drum. We select the Drone track and open Cubase’s Gate plugin on one of its inserts. As before, we activate sidechaining by clicking the Activate Side-Chain button at the top. We can no longer hear the drone. 3 We need to assign the kick as the sidechain input. Easy! We click the arrow to the right of the Activate SideChain button, then click Add Side-Chain input, then select the kick track as the input. It’ll automatically be routed, and we can immediately hear it working.
