8. How to use Cubase Pro 10’s new Distroyer effect
1 Clearly, Cubase 10 is a considerable upgrade from 9.5, but you’d expect at least one new plugin to be thrown in, too, right? Steinberg haven’t let us down, adding a devilish distortion effect called Distroyer. We’ve soloed an electronic drum track and opened Distroyer on an insert. The default patch is brutal! 2 Distroyer is a capable of asymmetrical distortion. Notice the big display in the centre of the effect’s GUI. Currently, it presents a symmetrical waveform – a sort of rounded-off square wave. As you can see, both positive and negative halves of the cycle have handles. Drag those up or down to create an asymmetrical wave. 3 Let’s have a play with the Tone knob. As you’d expect, the lower its value, the fewer high frequencies are in play. Lower the Boost and crank up the Drive for a grittier sound. Finally, let’s use the handles to shape the Lo and Hi Filters up top. We increase the Mix to 100% to hear only the effect.
