Setting yourself a sound design mission like this one is a surefire way to jumpstart your creativity in the studio, especially if you usually follow a particular workflow. While it’s completely fine to design sounds in isolation, crafting a mini track sketch at the same time means that each new sound fits within the real-world context of a song, as we’ve processed each sound to fit in the mix. Even if the track you create isn’t a masterpiece in itself, you can later go through and export each sound to your samples folder for use another time.
