Soundemote Labs Flower

From crystal cleanliness to pure aggression, squelches and squeals are this filter’s forte

Soundemote’s sub-imprint, Soundemote Labs is the company’s skunkworks, offering experimental plugins for free in order to try them out and gather feedback from users. Though they’re gratis, a donation option is offered for users who’d like to chip in.

With Flower Child Filter, Soundemote Labs are testing the viability of the developer’s future foray into boutique analogue-style filters, the results of which will eventually be made available in the form of FMD (Filters of Mass Destruction).

Flower Child offers two distinct algorithms: one clean and the other one dirty. No indication is given as to which filter(s) are modelled, but both sport a prefix of “U.S.”

No matter, the sound is what it’s all about, and there, Flower Child delivers, sounding awesomely analogue. It is packed with presets, but there are loads of parameters to play with if you’d prefer to roll your own. Tube distortion is provided, as is an envelope follower. A gorgeous oscilloscope view displays exactly what’s happening to the incoming signal. Stereo and mono operation are available, and a Chaos knob provides a bit of internal instability for true authenticity.

Flower Child is a proof-of-concept that has really piqued our interest. We’ll be watching out for FMD.
