07.10 Maxsta had a very specific style of groove in mind when he made Born On Your Own – one that’s intended to get the listener moving first and foremost. “I made this beat at a time where I was thinking, ‘I want to make grime beats and I want to bring back the dance into it, I want to bring back the vibe’,” he explains. “Not that it’s gone anywhere, but I just wanted to bring a dancey thing into it for my own stuff.

“So I spent time going to raves, going to Ace Hotel, going to places in Shoreditch and s**t like that, and just standing by the speakers and watching people dance. I felt like, with grime, when I watch the old-school videos of Dizzee Rascal or whoever, doing their thing, there’s girls in dresses in the front going like that [he dances enthusiastically]; and now, I feel like people do more of a bubble to the music – they wanna bubble, they don’t wanna go all out for it. So I was, like, let’s free the bubble!”
