14.05 Born OnYourOwn features vocals by Maxsta and grime stalwart JME, and marked one of the first times Maxsta had ever recorded himself in earnest. “I’ve got JME’s vocals in here and I’ve got mine. It started with just mine, and to be fair, it seems like I’ve done a whole load of stuff [to them]. I experiment in terms of mixing and stuff, because a lot of the tools that I’m coming across are new to me – I’ve only been producing for two years, and recording myself, so sometimes I just go a different way every time in terms of vocal chains and stuff. It depends on the feel. So I put an EQ on there, a standard Logic EQ – the cut and the boost and the little high-shelf boost thing. I didn’t really go in depth because I knew it was going to get mixed – I just wanted something I could hear in the studio.”
