Chorus vocals

-

21.30 Maxsta’s vocal in the chorus comprises four parallel layers. “It’s how I grew up recording. The people I used to watch in the studios would do layers of stuff, and sometimes I found myself doing more layers than I need, just because I didn’t know what I was doing. I used to do loads of layers – like eight layers of pretty much the same thing – and thinking I was creating a palette or something, I don’t know.

“The first layer is the lead, and [the others] are underneath, you feel them a bit more, and it just builds, because I love for it to sound like one vocal in the end.” He solos a spoken layer: “That’s me monotone, ‘Born on your own, die on your own…’. I like doing those as they don’t take much effort.”
