Back in the time machine to lovingly mock our music tech decisions of yore

Much like Thomas Dolby during that Grammys performance (bit.ly/td_grmys), we donned our powdered wigs in

November 2010 ( 158) and showed you how to bring the sound of the orchestra into your tracks. We still remember the days (and we mean days) spent swapping DVDs in order to install orchestral libraries that filled an entire hard drive. Great times.

We also devoted four pages of tutorial space to NanoStudio, demonstrating that,

“We asked if some plugins were actually taking ‘authenticity’ too far”

yes, this really was a DAW on a phone. Train journeys would never be the same.

Our Producer Masterclass, meanwhile, featured dubstep producer FuntCase – our sub-editors were on high alert checking that one – and we asked if some plugins were actually taking ‘authenticity’ too far. Our continuing love affair with skeuomorphic interfaces suggests that the answer was probably no.

Finally, we put one web-fearing reader in his place by telling him that keeping your PC disconnected from the internet was outdated, though with notifications now dominating our lives, maybe it’s not such a bad idea after all....
