Voyage Of Discovery is based around a piano loop with swelling strings and other classical elements entering and leaving as it progresses, while the piano provides a backdrop and glue for the 6+ minute duration. The strings sound excellent – particularly around the 4-minute mark

– so we’re assuming they emanate from that Spitfire package as the piece could be ‘played’. The mix balance is also great with each element available to pick out so nothing gets lost. We would recommend that another, perhaps more instant melodic motif were used – perhaps the strings following the piano part rather than just rising and falling as they do; now those strings have been wrestled into place, they deserve to pull their weight and provide something more memorable in terms of melody. We had a quick listen to another of Andy’s tracks, the more ambient Space & Time, and while this is still understated melodically it’s gushing with atmosphere and, to our ears anyway, a far richer experience. (We suggest that one first next time Andy!)
