App watch iPad whispers Flux Mini

We report on the latest developments in phone and tablet music making

-

Well-placed sources are suggesting that the next iPad Pro will have a processor that’s on a par with the M1 chip that sits in the new Silicon Macs. As such, it looks like it’s going to be obscenely powerful, and add credence to the suggestion that Apple’s flagship tablet is a genuine laptop replacement. What will this power be used for? Well, there was a rumour that Logic Pro could be coming to the iPad, and what better time to announce it than alongside a new iPad Pro? Here’s hoping…

Caelum Audio’s Flux Mini envelope shaper has a couple of big USPs: it’s easy to use and it’s free. Designed to add movement to your music, you can shape either amplitude or high-pass/low-pass filters by clicking and dragging on the graph. If that idea doesn’t grab you, there are 20 presets to work with, and you can add emphasis and adjust the tempo sync with dedicated controls. Flux Mini runs as an AUv3 plugin on iPhone/iPad/desktop.

Oliver Greschke was one of the devs on Andrew Huang’s recent Flip sampler app, but with that now complete, he’s given his excellent Elastic Drums app an update (v2.4). This deals more with maintenance issues than adding features, but there are a few notable tweaks too. In-app purchase sample kits are now only loaded as required, and the 200 presets are available as free downloads, not pre-installed, so reducing the app size by two thirds. There are also design improvements for new iPhone and iPad products, and the Ableton Link support has been updated. $9.99.
