Bass number two

-

1

The second bass sound is the one that appears in the chorus or the drop of the song and it is actually made up of three layers. 2

For the first, Ryan uses Logic’s Sampler and the Dyn DX bass preset (which Ryan tells us he used in the track The Jam too). Ryan again uses the CLA bass processor just a little on this sound. 3

As many of our recent Producer Masterclass interviews prove, Nicky Romero’s Kickstart plugin is becoming more popular and an easy option for that sidechaining effect.

4

The next bass layer of the three is a sub bass, so Ryan employs an EQ as shown to cut some of the low end from the first bass in this layer to give the second one more room.

5

The third layer in this bass sound is a filtered bass sound (as shown at the bottom, above). All of the sounds are grouped together for some additional processing. These include… 6 … Soundtoys Decapitator for distortion (and Ryan also employs his Culture Vulture for this). There’s more on Ryan’s processes on the video.
