KMI go blue
We’ve always had a soft spot for Keith McMillen Instruments – a company that designs great-looking keyboards and controllers (and yes, they look a bit futuristic, so that helps). So we’re pretty excited with this update to their rather great K-Mix controller/interface/mixer. That said it feels like a little more than an update, featuring, as it does, completely new preamps, now powered by USB for mobile use. K-Mix Blue also features, according to KMI, “our new ABS-Polycarbonate finish, an incredibly durable and scratch resistant enclosure that will stand the test of time”. K-Mix was already a pretty impressive piece of kit, traversing three big DAW production functions as a mixer (with filter, EQ, gate, and compressor on every channel), 8-in/10out audio interface and controller (Mackie HUI Control and Ableton Live 9-11 included) so this update makes an already flexible tool even better. It’s also pretty keenly priced at $599 – which is pretty good for three products in one.
