CM Dubstepping

-

Finally it’s the genre that stood out most in our 300 issue history (OK drum n bass might disagree) as we go a-dubstepping with both Groove and Cyclick. Here’s what Rob says of the latter: “This collection focuses on the digitally chilled world of dubstep. Firstly there are five tempo-based loop kits containing beats, basslines, leads, pads, keys, percussion and other oddities. Some of the beats from these kits were then taken and mashed up through a variety of effects chains to make the

Beat Dub Mashes, which contains 25 digital-dub mash-ups with long delay/reverb tails.

“Though much of the sound of dubstep comes from overtly digital sound sources, a touch of analogue here and there provides some oft-needed beef. Many of the drum, bass and synth parts were run through the G9 valve preamp, pushing the gain just to the edge of audible distortion (and often way beyond) to excite the harmonics. As well as the ubiquitous bitcrushing effects, some of the distortion comes courtesy of a heavily modified DOD SupraDistortion pedal and a Switchdoctor AC128 Germanium transistor fuzz pedal.”
