Nugen Audio announce Paragon ST reverb
In keeping with this month’s ‘companies offering cheaper products’ theme (yes, there is more than one story on this theme), Nugen Audio have announced Paragon ST, a lower price point mono/stereo-only version of their Paragon convolution reverb. Paragon is aimed at the film and TV industry, while the ST version most definitely has musicians as its target. And with it, it sounds like Nugen want to take the convolution reverb down a peg or two, and not just in terms of price…
“Why have 30 recordings of differentsized churches, when you can meticulously adjust the characteristics of one church?” they say, explaining the concept behind Paragon with one very logical question, because Paragon is not all about recreating endless real spaces but delivering all the power to tweak one space to create .
Essentially Paragon offers you the flexibility of an algorithmic reverb within a convolution engine, so while you do get real spaces modelled, you also get control over them. That means the Impulse Response library – the models of recorded spaces – is smaller than those on some convolution reverbs but, as Nugen say, “all you need is a select few, which can be tweaked to create almost limitless combinations of spaces”.
And like Paragon, Paragon ST “features spectral analysis and precise IR EQ, and zero time-stretching, which means no artefacts”. Both applications also now have extra features like stereo width and mic distance controls and are available now (or as an update to Paragon). Price is $299 for ST, so not that cheap but next to Paragon (around $570) it is, and it will be half price to 6/12/21.
