Our monthly shake-of-the-head at our younger selves’ news choices…

Back in December 2011, readers got a new editor for Christmas, with former deputy Lee du-Caine slipping into the big chair for the first time. A new sheriff was, quite metaphorically, in town.

172 was also the first to be available on Apple’s Newsstand, bringing it to iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. From that day forward, you could take us pretty much everywhere with you, like some kind of hi-tech music comfort blanket.

In terms of content, we offered you a DJ Food interview to chow down on, while Carl Cox told us that he’d stopped using Ableton Live for DJing because he felt like it was doing all the work for him. Sounds fine to us...

Relatedly, we asked if DJing and music production were converging; the fact that we also had a tutorial on making a tune in NI’s Traktor illustrated that they probably were, at least up to a point.

Finally, we had a review of Steinberg Sequel 3, the sequel to Sequel 2, which was itself a sequel to Sequel. Got that?
