Rob Papen announces Predator 3 – not the film – and much more

-

We quite enjoyed Predator 2 (the film and the plugin), although some say that the original (film, that is) can never be beaten. Certainly Rob Papen will be hoping that his Predator 3 synth will fare better than the Predator 3 film which wasn’t even called ‘Predator 3’, but Predators.

Anyway, enough of that. The all-new Predator 3 synth is, like its predecessors, a hybrid analogue and wavetable synth, and like every Rob Papen synth, features almost too many presets. This one crams in 6,500 of them – enough for even the most energetic of preset surfers.

You get both banks of sounds from Predator 1 and 2 plus a completely new UI which is both “interactive” (which means all essential main controls are visible on screen) and resizable. The synth costs £125/$149/€149.

In other Papen news, the company has announced Rocoder, “a new muscular vocoder type of FX” which they admit sounds a bit like ‘vododer’ but not to expect a regular vocoder. We’re assuming, then, it’s a vocoder with added robot voices. And we’re probably right. Rocoder features a 32-band vocoder, an Additive mode, a combined Vocoder + Additive mode, Noise mode, Tuned Noise mode, and a Tuned Comb mode, all of which are enough modes to make any noises that Depeche Mode won’t. Probably. Rocoder costs £41/$49/€49.

And finally from the RP stable we get the lot! Rob Papen eXplorer 7 is literally everything Papen has ever done in one bundle. That’s 25 titles and probably over a million sounds for £420/$499/€499.

 ?? ?? That’s a lot of Rob Papen sounds, across 25 titles. Even a Predator couldn’t handle that lot…
