>Freeware tip: Source Code
The range of open-source freeware is constantly growing. The collaborative nature of open-source invites anybody (with the necessary know-how) to tinker with the root code of the program, often enhancing it. Some great examples include the inaugural opensource iOS synth, Audiokit Synth One. This 6-voice hybrid synth contains more than 300 extraordinary presets. There’s also the mighty VCV Rack – a modular synth-emulating playground that you can modify endlessly, and it’s actually far easier than pulling apart a real module and re-wiring it. For Linux users, try out the slick opensource DAW Ardour. You’ll be astonished at what you can do with it.
