Though we’d always recommend you spend time listening to each individual track’s fine details when mastering (or better still, enlisting a seasoned mastering engineer), there are free online services you can try out. Firstly, the popular Landr delivers instantly sparkling results, using its patented AI and machine learning algorithm to inspect your track. It is, in essence, a robotic mastering engineer that has become increasingly sophisticated. Next, there’s Mastering.studio – developed by Brainworx Audio. This allows you to have your track algorithmically treated by a curated chain which emulates six of the most popular mastering styles. BandLab Mastering provides a similar pre-determined algorithmic chain, designed in collaboration with a panel of straight-up mastering experts. Its four mastering routes are defined as ‘Universal’, ‘Fire’, ‘Clarity’ and ‘Tape’, and the results are largely satisfactory. Elsewhere, the equally free Music Gateway allows you to upload a reference track that you wish your own track to sound like, and they’ll use it as the foundation of your final master. They also offer free distribution via Spotify, Apple Music and other delivery platforms. Last but not least there’s the superb eMastered. com. They do offer a free trial, and “recommend to a friend, get a month free” deal.
