Data entry
As late 80s synths came under ever greater micro-processor control, the process of editing sounds became more of an ordeal. Where analogue synths had appeared to be heavily laden with pots and faders to control and create sound, the new breed of digital diehards worked differently. Inspired by the originator, the Moog Source, all of the companies moved in the direction of selecting a parameter and changing an amount with a single fader, or what we now call an infinite rotary encoder. This has also become the predominant force for many keyboards linked to a computer. However, it doesn’t end there, with similar forms of this tech infiltrating how you control the onboard computer in your car!
