1. Getting started with Syntronik 2 J-60

-

1

To get started, download and install IK Multimedia’s Product Manager application from here www.ikmultimedia. com/products/productmanager . Once installed, if you don’t have one already, you’ll need to create an IK Multimedia account, which you can do from the IK Product Manager or from here www.ikmultimedia.com/userarea. 2

Now open the IK Product Manager and select the My Products tab. From here, select the Software category and find the Syntronik 2 CS entry. Select the install option and follow the install process for your particular operating system. 3

Now you need to grab your J-60 serial number. Get this via a link in the instructions at www.filesilo.co.uk/ ComputerMusic, so sign up and register if you haven’t already. You’ll need this copy of Computer Music to unlock this issue’s contents and download the instructions text file.

4

Armed with your serial number, return to the IK Product Manager app and select the Register Product tab on the right. Enter your serial number and then navigate to the Sounds tab in the My Products section. You should now see Syntronik J-60 listed. You have 180 days to download the soundset.

5

To download and install J-60, click on the install tab on the right. The files are 1.8GB in total, so make sure you have enough space and bear in mind the process will probably take at least a few minutes as it downloads, copies and instals the soundset.

6

Syntronik 2 CS also includes a free taster soundset that draws from a number of the synths. This is about 3GB, has about 100 presets including some for the J-60, which we’ll use in this tutorial. Once again, you have 180 days to download the content.

7

When you first launch Syntronik 2 it builds the database using whichever soundsets you’ve installed. Once it’s done this, you’ll find yourself in the browser page. On the left hand side there’s a list of synth models. Scroll to and click on the J-60 graphic to reveal the J-60 patches.

8

The browser is categorised, so clicking a category sorts the available presets, and once you click on a patch you’ll see the patch details on the right hand side. You’ll need to double click on a patch to actually load it.

9

Finally, Syntronik 2 also runs as a standalone. Once everything is installed, launch the standalone application and it will run a similar database build process. The app looks like the plugin, although you’ll find the Settings page includes various additional options such as audio and MIDI setup.
