4.Finessing sounds

-

1

We can create more complex sounds by connecting up more oscillators and by using various other modules. Load up the Acid preset from the Tutorials folder. Then add the Noise Generator by patching it to the Filter, in line with Osc 1 and 2. 2

Next up, Delay. The delay and chorus do not need patching. So all you need to do to get started is switch them on. For the delay switch the T.Sync up so that the delay follows the DAW tempo. You’ll see the delay has separate time and feedback controls for left and right channels. 3

The Noise Generator includes both Level and Colour options. Adjust these to taste to add some bite to the sound. We’ve set our Level to about 50% and the Colour to -20%. Adjust the filter Frequency to see how this will sound when the filter Cutoff is increased. 4

In the default state, the delay is even on both sides. Play some sounds and adjust the Dry/Wet control to get a balance you like. Now try adjusting the timing for one side. We’ve set our right channel to 2.0. You’ll hear the effect is automatically in ping pong mode. 5

Now switch in the Chorus. This has three modes and each has quite a different character. Once again adjust the Dry/Wet to taste. Here we’ve set the chorus Speed to 0.65Hz and selected our favourite mode II for the chorus. 6

Finally, Reverb. This needs patching and can be positioned in various ways. Here we’ve connected Env Signal output to the Reverb input, and then connected the Reverb output to main Out 1 & 2, selecting reverb Type 2, with mix at 100% and adjusting the reverb Level to taste.
