PREVIOUS WEEK PHONE USAGE: 49 HOURS, 23 MINUTES. DETOX WEEK PHONE USAGE: FIVE HOURS, SEVEN MINUTES.
I have to be honest and say the moment this detox was over I reinstalled all of my apps. But I’ve learnt something – I’d become far too reliant on my phone and this detox made me realise that. I don’t know if I’d recommend going cold turkey like I did, but it’s important to find some sort of balance. For example, at lunches and get-togethers, unless I’m expecting an important call, the phone should not be on the table – it’s not a bunch of flowers, it’s a device and its place is in my bag. Another thing – it’s OK to not reply right that second. Instead, I should wait until I have the time to respond properly. While I’ve realised that not having my phone on me isn’t going to kill me, I’m not going to be swapping my iPhone out for a simple brick anytime soon.
