LOREN BURTON, 30
Why did you enter Cosmo Curve? One of my followers on Instagram commented on one of my photos and said, ‘You should enter the Cosmo Curve competition.’ I looked into it and I was like, I’m going to be brave and put myself out there!
Have you done any modelling before?
I used to model in my teens – I started when I was 14, but not in the plussize category. I had a fiveyear contract but I hardly got any work during that time. It was always something I wanted to pursue, but once my contract ended, it wasn’t renewed as I went travelling overseas.
What do you do for work? I’ve been working in human services, so I work with kids in foster care, mainly around trauma therapy. About a year ago I took some time off because I lost my brother and I just decided I needed a break, so I’ve been at home fulltime with my kids.
Have you always been confident in your own skin? No, I was at my lowest with my body after I had my first child at 23. Nothing can prepare you for how your body changes when you have a child. I worked out trying to get back to what I was before, but I just realised it was never going to happen. It’s been a process to accept that your body has changed and you have produced life, but it’s something to be proud of.
