This huge, hard cover book is amazing. Most readers will likely never need to present research accompanied by photographs and page layouts – the subjects of Frankel’s career – but that should not stop them acquiring and enjoying this massive “how to” manual.

Extraordinary macro and micro scale photography is presented in startling, yet harmonious, relation to the principles of graphic design across 450 dazzling pages. The text is there for those with serious intent; for the rest, the appeal lies firmly and wholly in visual richness. For science publishers, even experienced ones, the book is essential.
