After 17 years in London, Hilary bought a former convent in the Pipers River Valley and moved to Tasmania in 2004. “I grew up in Tassie,” she says. “I wanted to live closer to nature and reconnect with my roots.” In between working on her second book and contributing to ABC Rural, Hilary visited Nile Farm for our story about Carol and Rodney Westmore. The couple are restoring the home of colonial landscape painter John Glover, who once lived on their property at Deddington. “The views of the hills are exactly as they would’ve been when Glover painted them. I go to the Glover Prize every year in Evandale. It’s a buzz to see how artists view Tasmania’s landscape in such a variety of ways.”
