Anyone with children knows that storage is the key to a more organised home, so when designer Janette Stritt of Stritt Design and Construction first met the owners of this stunning new Hamptons-inspired house, a mudroom and laundry was at the top of the ‘must include’ list. The couple wanted a stylish place where all family members, including their two young sons, could store shoes, school bags, coats and hats. It had to be separate to the entry, but also easily accessible — especially important given the family lives a short stroll from the beach. “They can kick off their shoes and put their sandy clothes in the wash before they enter the house,” says designer Janette Stritt. Not just practical, this is a truly pretty space, and the designer credits her stylish clients for driving the aesthetics. “They knew exactly the look they were after and had a great eye for this style,” says Janette. “The checkerboard tiles bring a point of interest to the room, but at the same time the space is kept fresh and bright by the white walls and natural light that floods through the window. Since moving in, our client has told us this is one of her favourite rooms — and we can see why!”
