FOUNDER OF LIFESTYLE AND FASHION BRAND, MY GENERAL STORE, 40 Michelle worked in fashion PR and brand development before launching My General Store, which mirrors her personal style.
How would you describe your style? Relaxed, holiday mode, simple, classic. What are you going to wear tomorrow? Most probably a pair of high-waisted linen pants. I live in the My General Store summer slacks and a shirt, or I could throw on a dress! Wardrobe essentials? Linen pants, a white shirt, silk shirt, a long linen dress, an old pair of overalls, a vintage caftan and a great suit. Do you have any favourite clothing labels? I mostly wear My General Store. I make what I feel like wearing, which is fun. Other brands I love are LOEWE, Hermès and Celine. Dimissianos and Miller sandals in summer. R.M. Williams boots in winter. Where do you shop? I shop mostly on holidays. I love small towns and finding local brands and special pieces for our home or wardrobe. What are your go-to hair and beauty products? I can’t live without Aesop hand balm and body balm. Environ products for my face and I drink many litres of water daily! Do you have any favourite accessories? My husband Tim just gave me a Cartier Love bracelet with my boys’ (Bugsy, 7, and Bobby Arrow, 4) names engraved on it. I adore it. I also love to use leftover pieces of linen as headscarfs, wrapping all of my hair up into it. What do you never leave home without? Aesop hand cream and my phone. How do you manage work/life balance? It’s something that I’m constantly working on perfecting. I book in holidays to have precious family time. This also works as a great deadline to get collections finished. Ever think about living in the country? Yes often! I have been holidaying to the Byron Bay region with my family since I was 12 years old. I feel quite drawn to this area and often dream of buying a farmhouse in the hinterland. Style influences? My mum’s ’80s outfits were amazing; the shoulders. I have been loving this era and revisiting my mum’s jewellery. What’s your best style advice? Buy quality over quantity, find timeless pieces and have fun.
