Mudgee’s growth rate from 2011–2016 was 11 per cent and there are 6077 families living in the region. Three coal mines are major employers and the town encourages workers to be part of the community that the industry supports. The region’s key industries are mining, tourism, agriculture, viticulture and construction. These sectors have experienced positive growth over the past few years and tourism now attracts more than 528,000 people per annum. About 16 per cent of the population is employed in mining-related businesses, while retail has 12 per cent, agriculture 10 per cent, healthcare nine per cent and tourism eight per cent. Mudgee has access to NBN and there are a number of supportive networks including the Chamber of Commerce and Business Enterprise Centre.
