SABINE PICK

-

CALLIGRAPHER & COLLAGE ARTIST, 54 Sabine lives with her husband, Lincoln, and 11-year-old son Oskar in Byron Bay, NSW. What do you love about living on the north coast of NSW? I love that I can walk to the beach in minutes, and the town has everything a city has in a much smaller and more intimate space. Driving up over Bangalow Road back to Byron and seeing the rolling hills, Mount Warning, paddocks and the bay itself makes me happy. I also enjoy the older locals who live here, such as my neighbour Bugsy, who is one of the kindest, funniest people I have ever met. Describe your style. Simple, with a touch of floral and a bit of lace. What are your wardrobe essentials? Jeans, a grey T-shirt, and if it’s warm, summer sundresses and thongs or sandals. What do you always pack when travelling? I have a small on-board plane pack with noise-cancelling headphones, a silk eye mask, Grown Alchemist Hydra-mist to rehydrate the skin and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream for lips and dry skin patches. I also always have mini incense for rooms from Space NK. Do you have any favourite clothing labels? AG Jeans, A.P.C., Totem, Buddha Wear and my new favourite is local Byron Bay label Massuri. I also adore Jamin Puech handbags. Where do you love to shop? My favourite shop in Byron Bay is Enzo and Toto for an eclectic mix of European and Australian labels. What are your go-to hair and beauty products? I like Kevin Murphy Free Hold styling paste for my short hair. I use Grown Alchemist for my skin and adore the Antioxidant Facial Oil, which I use with Hydra-repair Day Cream, as well as their Mandarin and Rosemary Body Cream for post-sun skin. I don’t wear much make-up. What do you never leave home without? Just the obvious: mobile, keys, wallet. I always have a Pilot fountain pen and headphones as well. How do you manage your work/life balance? I share a studio space in the Byron Arts and Industry Estate, where I keep my letterpress printing machines, so my workspace is separate from my home space. There are times I work from home, such as school holidays, but I usually have two or three days that are studio days only. On the other days I run errands, do house stuff or go to a clay class.
