CHAPTERS OF LIFE

In a world changing, perhaps a little too fast, it’s refreshing to read Country Style and be engrossed in the stories of everyday Aussies who are choosing to embrace a simpler life. Stories of resilience, hope and communities coming together. Every page reminds me of a chapter in my life associated with the country; mustering sheep on fat ponies, clear blue skies, swimming in dams, the smell of rain on parched earth and the roar of a flooded river. Give me a quintessential tin shack, an old arm chair, a cold beer and perfect peace and I am close to heaven itself. Thank you for epitomising the true Australian spirit. A GOLDEN HOUR

Currently adjusting to my new role as mum to my beautiful baby daughter, I was delighted to see the May issue of Country Style arrive in our mailbox. It lay on our kitchen table for days before I was able to sit and read it. I looked at the cover each day, loving the golden colours of the featured landscape. I imagined being in that paddock, checking the sheep and watching the calming sunset. I enjoyed my own ‘golden half hour’ — time to retreat for a bit — while reading the issue. Stories such as Elizabeth Pilkington’s highlight community spirit but also demonstrate the comfort we get from our homes. The Style Diaries of Jemima and Mardi however, made me think I better up my game on the mum style front! I look forward to the next edition. Amy Johansen, MACEDON RANGES, VICTORIA

A LOYAL FRIEND

It’s a happy train trip from the city back to my little home in the country with Country Style. I have the same feeling of anticipation I had decades ago when this wonderful magazine launched. I can turn the freshly printed pages and be transported to a rose garden in Tasmania or a ramshackle Barossa Valley cottage in the process of restoration. Thank you for giving your readers consistently remarkable issues. No matter how much changes around us, Country Style is always there; welcoming as ever, a loyal and sharing friend, offering much, asking little. Sue Mccarney, BUNDANOON, NSW

WINNER LIFTING SPIRITS

It was the golden sheen of the May issue’s cover caught in a shaft of morning sunlight that beckoned me as it lay on the table, waiting for that special moment when I could sit — cup of tea in hand — and drift to another place. As a reader for many years, it has always been a treat to flip through the wondrous pages, but this month was extra special. We are in the midst of a restoration due to a sudden mishap that has caused damage to our home, so it was truly wonderful and lifted my spirits to imagine what our home could look like at the conclusion of this episode… and to chuckle with Rob Ingram. I believe a good sense of humour is essential at all times. Thanks to everyone at Country Style, a very special publication. Jean Mulligan, BANORA POINT, NSW
