HOBART, TASMANIA

Located on the edge of Hobart’s central business district, this award-winning barn conversion is a wonderful mix of old and new. Exposed sandstone walls and timber beams add a sense of history to the more modern fixtures and furnishings. Originally built in the late 1820s, The Barn Tas has been cleverly transformed by its owners — two young local architects — into a comfortable one-bedroom, one-bathroom property, full of character. The open-plan living space is complete with a fireplace and a kitchen area with sleek dark cabinetry, while a large glass door pivots open to connect the dining area to a gravelled courtyard outside. Designer pieces sit alongside mid-century furniture and other items the owners have collected on their travels. Stock up on supplies, light the fire and enjoy the cosy atmosphere inside (as well as the welcome bottle of sparkling each guest receives), or explore nearby Battery Point and Salamanca and try one of the many restaurants within walking distance.
