MARTINA GEMMOLA
The Melbourne-based interior and lifestyle photographer travelled to Port Fairy to shoot artist Colleen Guiney’s home for our story on page 50. Martina nominates modernist photographer Olive Cotton as her favourite Australian artist — “She was such a master of light” — and was a fan of Colleen Guiney’s work before she captured the artist’s home for this issue. “A couple of years ago I bought a lovely piece of Colleen’s work and I’d quite like another.” Martina loved the artist’s environmentally conscious home and was envious of her spacious studio. “She’s lucky I didn’t move in,” says the city-based photographer who grew up near Ararat in south-west Victoria and attended the annual Port Fairy Folk Festival as a child. “Visiting now, in quieter times, I really appreciate the slow, peaceful relaxed version. The local yo-yo biscuits are also heavenly.”
