Louth Races, August 8th–11th Located 100 kilometres south-west of Bourke on the Darling River, the township of Louth has hosted horse racing since 1888 and thousands now make the annual pilgrimage to the seven-race event. This iconic race day has evolved into four days of fun and entertainment, including golf days, damper bake-offs, barbecues, fashions on the field and a post-race knees-up in the saddling paddock. Griffith Italian Festival, August 24th An inaugural event to celebrate all things Italian, with live music, market stalls, wine and, of course, food aplenty. Make a weekend of it by attending the Festa del Salsicce e Salami (Festival of the Sausage) on Sunday August 25, which pays homage to homemade salami and includes a competition that attract entries from around Australia.
