MARGOT SHANNON

HOMEWARES IMPORTER AND RETAILER, 52

-

It comes as no surprise that Margot places a strong emphasis on natural fibres as she runs a fine Merino property with her husband Chris and imports artisan wares for her shop, Merchant Campbell.

Are you interested in fashion? I love clever pattern cutting, hand beading and stitching, and the drape of beautiful fabric. I love texture, design and the preservation of traditional techniques and handicrafts. I love colour and monotones. I love it all!

What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received? Be true to yourself, find your own style and stick with it. Coco Chanel said, “Fashion changes but style endures”.

What are your wardrobe essentials? M.E.L. three-quarter pants that can go from day to night, cashmere or woollen wraps, white long-sleeved T-shirts and crisp white shirts. My absolute favourite Spring Court sandshoes plus a fabulous lipstick, a classic handbag and interesting statement jewellery to finish it off.

What are your favourite clothing labels? Megan Park, Trelise Cooper, Ellery, Lee Mathews, M.A. Dainty and Marlene Birger.

What are your hair and beauty essentials? Purple shampoo to keep my hair bright and silver, mousse to give it body; Salt by Hendrix Eye Babe Oil Treatment and Mermaid Facial Oil; Aēsop face creams and body products. By Terry and MAC makeup. Jo Malone, Chanel and Byredo Flowerhead perfumes.

What do you never leave home without? My iphone, handbag, bottle of water, Salt By Hendrix Lip Butter and a modicum of dignity.

What are you listening to and reading? I’m listening to lovely chats on Dispatch to a Friend and Chat 10 Looks 3 and laughing at Dear Joan and Jericha. I’m currently reading Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind and Michelle Obama’s Becoming.

Are you a fan of wool for clothing? I am fine Merino wool’s biggest fan! I love the way it drapes and stretches, its warmth and lustre, and the feel of it against your skin.

Who is making excellent woollen products? So many: Jac and Jack, Bassike, Country Road and Cable. Hedrena and Woolerina for my snuggly camisoles and singlets. I also love jumpers from Bow and Arrow who are close by at Yass. To learn more about Talmo, see page 48.
