STEPHANIE TRETHEWEY
Stephanie lives on a 182-hectare property in Dunorlan, Tasmania, with her husband Sam, 38, and their children Elliot, three and a half, and Evie, 19 months. The family has three dogs – blue heelers Oxley and Lottie, and kelpie Trek – and 1500 cattle.
What do you love about living in the country? I love the freedom and how connected we are to our food.
I grew up in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and was a city girl through and through, until I fell in love with a farmer!
How would you describe your style? When I’m not on the farm in jeans, a work shirt and muddy boots, my style is minimalist with a rural, feminine touch.
Are you interested in fashion? Yes, but I don’t get many opportunities to leave the farm, let alone dress up! I like to make the most of it when I do.
Who are your style influences? Catriona Rowntree always keeps it simple, feminine and classy. And you’ll laugh, but… my husband [influences me]. He taught me that a clean pair of boots, a popped collar and an Akubra can make anyone feel stylish and confident.
What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received? “Be yourself, and don’t be a fashion victim. Wear what makes your body look good – don’t just buy what’s trending.”
What are your wardrobe essentials? My R.M. Williams boots and my Akubra.
What are your favourite clothing labels? Birdsnest, Gant, R.M. Williams, and Dust N Boots, to name a few.
Where do you shop for clothing and accessories? Any local favourites? I shop online because the nearest clothing boutiques are just under an hour away, and I struggle to find pieces that suit my style.
What are your essential beauty products? Coconut oil to keep my skin happy, and waterproof mascara.
Do you have a favourite fragrance? I don’t often wear fragrance, but when I do it’s a roll-on essential oil.
Do you have any favourite accessories? A pair of simple diamond stud earrings.
What helps you keep a balanced life? Getting up before the kids get up, drinking lots of water, and spending some time in my vegie patch when I can.
What are you reading/listening to/watching? I’m currently reading The Power of Fun by Catherine Price. I listen to Mamamia’s No Filter podcast weekly, and I’m also watching The Blacklist on Netflix with Sam.
What do you never leave home without? My children! Ha – apart from them, I always take a hat, which can be the solution to any bad hair day.
Where are your favourite local spots to eat? I love the Deloraine Deli in nearby Deloraine, and Mudbar Restaurant in Launceston.
