A young ram from Kukerin stud Golden Hills captured the judge’s eye to secure the Ditchburn family the grand champion White Suffolk title.

Stud co-principal Nathan Ditchburn said the young ram, bred from Bundara Downs stock, had displayed great potential with massive hindquarter muscle.

In awarding the sash, judge Peter Angus said the competing ewe had scored equally against the champion ram in the assessment scan, but objectively the ram had won because of its sire appeal.

“It was a close competition with the ewe coming from a great breeding line, but the winning ram showed superior breed type, with strength and stretch, that were all backed up by the objective measurements,” Mr Angus said.
