Shirlee Downs all class POLL DORSET

Strength was the overwhelming factor that won the day for Shirlee Downs’ powerful ewe.

The Squiers family’s entries won champion sashes in the ewe and ram classes, but judge Andrew Scott was overwhelmed by the scale and correctness of the ewe, to “easily” award it grand champion.

“The ewe is an example of an animal in this breed the industry should use as a benchmark,” Mr Scott said.

“It showed all the femininity for breeding, great carcase, topline structure and correctness required to make it stand out among a cohort of other excellent examples of the breed.”

Shirlee Downs principal Chris Squiers said the young ewe, from last year’s lambs, had been chosen because of its stand-out features.
