Showcase brings home tourism gong
We provide a platform to bring more than 20,000 visitors to our region each August to support local businesses and visit the top ag show in WA. Field Days chairwoman Nadine McMorran
As the biggest agricultural machinery showcase in WA, and within the top three biggest in Australia, the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days has now added another feather to its cap.
It was last week recognised at the 25th Belmont and WA Small Business Awards for its contribution to tourism in the State, with its organisers being presented with the Tourism Award during a ceremony at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Field Days chairwoman Nadine McMorran said the event drew thousands of visitors to the Wheatbelt region every winter.
“We provide a platform to bring more than 20,000 visitors to our region each August to support local businesses and visit the top ag show in WA,” Ms McMorran said.
With the news still fresh on the streets of Dowerin, Ms McMorran said the town and its surrounding communities were happy to provide a home to the new tourism title.
“We are extremely proud to receive this recognition for our region,” she said.
“It strengthens the passion and dedication that Dowerin and its surrounding communities commit to our event.”
Ms McMorran and assistant event co-ordinators Kahli Rose and Tiffany Davey were accompanied by long-term local volunteers Les and Shirley Howard and Denise Sutherland at the awards night, hosted by not-for-profit Belmont Business Enterprise Centre. While only a small component of the more than 300 volunteers the event benefits from each year, Ms McMorran said the trio were representative of what made the field days story so successful.
She said the field days would not be possible without its volunteers, exhibitors and contributors, a matter that would be front and centre at next year’s event. “Next year’s plans are centred around celebrating our story,” she said.
With 54 years of Dowerin Field Days challenges and achievements to explore, it is a story the team will do their utmost to bring to life amid the rows upon rows of agricultural machinery.
