Mt Barker sale report
Numbers were up for a total yarding of 1973 mainly prime cattle at Mt Barker saleyards last week.
Weaner steer calves topped the market at 375¢/kg, while a pen of European-cross heavy weaner heifers sold for 304¢/kg. A large yarding of cows on offer sold to a top price of 188¢/kg.
Heavyweight weaner steers sold for 290¢ to 318¢/kg, to average 310¢/ kg, medium weights (280-330kg) for 276¢ to 375¢/kg, to average 307¢/kg, and lighter weights for 276¢ to 342¢/kg, to average 323¢/kg.
Weaner heifers sold for 235¢ to 304¢/kg, to average 269¢/kg. Yearling steers sold from 260¢ to 316¢/ kg, to average 296¢/kg, while yearling heifers sold for 150¢ to 292¢/kg, to average 264¢/kg.
Grown steers (600-750kg) sold for 230¢/kg, and the lighter 500-600kg steers for 245¢ to 262¢/kg. Steers weighing 400-500kg sold for 250¢ to 278¢/kg. Grown heifers weighing over 540kg sold for 180¢ to 246¢/kg, averaging 213¢/kg, while heavy prime cows sold for 170¢ to 188¢/kg, to average 177¢/kg.
