Katanning sale report
Numbers were up for a total yarding of 19,839 mixed-quality sheep at Katanning saleyards last week.
Most categories lifted in price, with increased demand from all buyers. Extra heavy lambs topped the market at $158/head. Store crossbred lambs gained $5/head on strong demand. Young ewes sold to a top of $129/head. Mutton values lifted, with the best heavy mutton selling for $136/head.
Light lambs sold to restockers for $40 to $82/head, while airfreight weights sold for $85 to $110/ head for the lighter weights and up to $127/head for the heavier weights. Light trade-weight lambs sold for $117 to $131/head, while heavier types sold to $142/head.
Heavy lambs sold for $148 to $150/head and a couple of extra heavy pens sold to $158/head.
Young Merino ewes sold for $61/ head for light weights and up to $129/head for the best, which sold to restockers, to average $89/head.
Heavy mutton over 24kg cwt sold for $90 to $136/head, including skins, to average 394¢/kg cwt, while medium weight ewes (1823kg cwt) sold for $78 to $105/head.
